I've got a possible line on a Rick with wavy Grovers and the seller mentioned that one of them rattles. He also mentioned that it may have been re-swaged in the past. Would re-swaging likely be a good fix for the rattle? If it has been re-swaged, is it likely that it's not a good candidate for re-re-swaging?

It's likely not an issue for playing plugged in, just acoustically, but I do that fairly often and the rattle would drive me bonkers.

It might rattle a little either because when it fell apart, the owner lost a washer that goes on the key shaft or the cover is a bit loose because it wasn't re-swaged well enough and then have carefully added superglue. Either way, it can be corrected. Don't let that stop you from picking up a nice Rick!

These waffle-cases can either be swaged or rebuilt with countersunk #2 flathead screws.

I do the screw thing, relube, use Loctite on the threads, and it's good for a looooong time. Totally invisible once installed.

Personally, I think you've got a missing washer.

Could be. Paul, I've read your notes about the countersunk #2 flathead procedure - I don't have the tools for that, but hopefully it's just a washer. And hopefully it's a common washer - do you have the specs on that?

Not off the top of my head, but if you drop me a PM, I'll try to remember to check my tuners...

Had the same issue with a '74 MG I once owned. The D-tuner would buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...no washer. But it wasn't amplified so not a problem at shows.
