Ric Bass sound one model to another

I have a 1978 4001 that has that classic Ric early Geddy Lee growl. I am looking at buying a 1960s 4005 with toaster pickups. How does the sound compare to a 1970's 4001?

Quite different! The 4005 is a hollowbody with different pickup placement. The hollow body is the main difference; makes it thuddier. Yes, thuddier.

John Entwhistle had one used on The Seeker... that should give you an idea of the sound???
1967 Rickenbacker 4005 (“Model 31”) bass in natural Mapleglo
Serial no. GE 2208.
Round-top body with chequer binding, “slash” soundhole, bound fingerboard with triangular markers.
Acquired late 1968/early 1969.
Used in studio only, including The Seeker
Used in television promos, including Beat Club, 1969 (for Tommy) and I Can See For Miles (on Pop Goes the Sixties, 1969)
Sold in Sotheby’s auction, 2003. Estimated £1,200–£1,800. Sold for £7,200.

I beg to differ. Lots of fellow forumites were not even able to spot the 4005 in a sound sample with several of my Rickenbacker basses when I made this
topic with a poll. Hint for the topic poster: there is a link to an mp3 with among other Rickenbacker's a 4005 in that topic. There is a lot of maple in the 4005 which makes it sound close to a 4001.

The only 4005 I've ever played sounded quite different to any 4001 or 4003 I've ever played. It sounded like a Ric, yes, but it was much more open/airy sounding and was much thumpier on the low strings. Of course they may all sound very different and amp settings/playing technique will be a big factor, but that's what I found.
