Dr Z amp + Ric

Hi guys

I've been contemplating getting a Dr. Z mini Z head with the 1x10 speaker purely as a bedroom type of amp, anyone think that's a good idea? I'm not really enjoying my current practice amp, a Vox VT15 as I dont like the 'amp modelling' sounds at all.
Anyone else out there use a Dr. Z amp with a Ric? Any recommendations for any other boutique bedroom amps?

Dr. Z is the way to go! I have never heard anything bad about them, and have checked out a couple at my local Dr. Z dealer. 8)

Besides, I have to support our local businesses.

Jeff,

How would you describe the sound of a Dr. Z with a Rick 12? I love the way those amps sound but have only heard them in a blues setting.

I have an older Dr Z Mini combo. One thing I can say, it is loud. You would never think that it is only 5 watts. Most of the time, I run my 360/12 through a Traynor YCV20WR, although it sounds real good when it's run through the Mini.

BTW, did I say it was loud!

Robert, I never played a 12 string through one, only sicksez sixes. But I couldn't see a DR.Z not sounding great with one; IIRC Mike Zaite is a big VOX fan.

Dr Z's website features a Ric with their top of the line Z Wreck. I doubt that would have happened if their amps didn't sound great with a Ric.

Nice! I like to see a 610. Just got a '95 610 and it is hands down my favorite Ric guitar. Oh yeah, that Dr. Z sounds and looks sweet. I say go for it.
Hmmm... I think I need to go play my 610 now!

Later,

I use a Carmen Ghia 2x10" combo with my 620. It's sounds great! I think the mini will be a great choice.

I'd love to have the KT-45. I bet a Ric would sound awesome through it.

I've been using a Maz18Jr head and Z 1x12 cab with my Ric's for several years. It gets great blackface Fender tones and you can dial in Vox very easily as well. It has an EL84 power platform , with a really versatile tone stack.

I have a Stingray from Dr.Z. Great sounding amp. Not really a bedroom amp, though.

But a Z Air Brake takes care of that.

Here's an article in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer about Dr. Z's background and his local amp production facility:

Dark. Surprisingly dark.

I just stumbled into a 370-12, and I was very excited to try it through my Maz 18 Junior NR head. But I was a little shocked at the lack of sparkle and chime.

Still have to try some different speakers -- I was just using the Jensens in my Twin Reverb for the experiment. Maybe it's a better combination, with some other speakers...

Well I finally bit the bullet went for a Dr Z Maz 8 with an Alnico Blue, I should be getting it in the next few weeks so I'll try and get some sound samples up once I get it. It should sound great with my 660/12 :D
