Favorite Prog Groups
Re: Favorite Prog Groups
I can imagine why so many are against Philly. But I think he is great drummer, better singer than Gabriel, great composer, great producer. Today because of him everybody knows songs like In The Cage, Supper's Ready, Cinema show, I know What I Like...
or that Tony Banks is great keyboard (or the greatest for my taste) player.
Phil Collins (like it or not) was and is a part of Genesis not like Trevor Rabin who was intruder in Yes.

Re: Favorite Prog Groups
Phil is a great drummer and not a bad singer, but better than with Peter no way.
Re: Favorite Prog Groups
Phil sang lead on several very early Genesis songs; every time I saw them, going back their first US tour as an opening act for It's A Beautiful Day, in April 1972, Phil did sing lead.

Thank you Jeff; finally someone mentioned Nektar!
No one has mentioned Starcastle. Sure, the initial album sounded a lot like Yes, including the singer, but the songs are great prog and later albums showed the depth of the group. Besides, Gary Strater (RIP) wrote some amazing bass lines.

Agree on bothkiramdear wrote:I'll go along with that list, too, except for Rush. I just don't care for Geddy's singing. Especially the albums "Fragile" through "Relayer" are tops on my list.
