I feel abashed that I have never actually heard a Rush tune.....

I'm with you on the others and would add early ELP (definitely not to be confused with ELO!). I'm a big Crimson fan - Lark's Tongues in Aspic being my all-time favourite prog album.

I'll go along with that list, too, except for Rush. I just don't care for Geddy's singing. Especially the albums "Fragile" through "Relayer" are tops on my list.

I don't know many people that would confuse ELP with ELO. I like ELP but sometimes they go a little to far in the way of being pretentious. Larks Tounges is the bomb and sometimes it is tough to decide if that or Red is my fav. Close To The Edge and Relayer are the best Yes. Pink Floyd would be Animals, Rush is Perm Waves. Zappa to many to mention. Many of the bands of the new style of Prog are really good.

I'd say Genesis all the way through Duke was good prog. Abacab was the first real boner by them.

Agree with you, but there's some great prog songs on Abacab (Me and Sarah Jane, Dodo/Lurker), on Genesis (Mama, Home by the Sea...) on Invisible Touch (Domino, The Brazilian) on We Can't Dance (Fading Lights) especially live version.

I used to defend that as well. That's certainly a good point. But it doesn't excuse the drivel that fills the rest of those albums!

I am curious though, off the top of my head I can't remember much different on Fading Lights live vs. studio, other than a short guitar solo. Is there much different? I am impressed that they played that, just Phil, Mike and Tony live. Bass pedals live forever!!! :D

I didn't mean just Fading Lights. But you're right about Fading Lights.

Genesis at ABACAB got really lame and the stuff after was just sad. After Peter left it was alright and when Hackett left they were to Phil Collinsy. I really don't care for ... And Then..., even Duke was kind of weak in a lot of areas and stuff like Who Donnit on ABACAB must have taken them all of 5 minuites to write the lyrics. Dodo/Lurker was really cool. Home By The Sea and Second Home By The Seas was good.
