Bad Grover Tuner

Just got this bass and the D sting wavy grover tuner cover pop off. looks as if it was glued somehow to stay on. Looking online this looks like an impossible item to find. Anyone ever replace these with maybe regular Standard tuners from rick or eleswhere. Also, I assume new holes will need to be drilled if I use tuners from rick. I saw a grover tuner online for the E and A string. I'm also left handed. Will this work for me in the D string poistion?

The cover can be re-swaged into place to not come off, no need to replace. Do a search on the forum, something to the effect of "Exploding Grover tuners" or something to that effect, IIRC.

I'm not sure I trust these things now that I read up on them. I may take them off and sell. 3 wavy off an 82. One that exploded. I think I will put on the Standard Rickenback open back tuners. Just hope the Rick tuners cover the holes from the grovers

Will the open tuners fit on the headstock. At least on my 73 the head is so small there's no room.

The larger Kluson/Schaller type tuners will most likely "spill over" the edges of the headstock. Better you should put Hipshot Ultralite or Schaller M4 tuners on the bass.

Really? Ric tuners will spill over. Is the Headstock made smaller when they put Grovers on?

The post hole locations are slightly different to accommodate the larger mounting plate of those tuners.

Ugh.. thats bad news. I dont want to install the M4's because the grovers screw holes will show. Was trying to cover up the old holes

There are 2 E/A Wavy Grovers on ebay right now. I know it's not the one you need, but an extra would be nice to have.

Well. I'm left handed. So E A is D G to me so they would replace my D grover

I've got an extra right-handed D-G if needed.
