My wife used to eat those things when she was a kid growing up in Latvia. Also, anybody remember Walter Dyer (old hippy guy who used to make fancy moccasins from leather that was about 3/16" thick back in the '70s)? They were made from European moose/elk hide, most of which was imported for making machine belts because it was so tough - back in the days when Americans still made stuff (other than Rickenbackers) and machines still had belts.
