Mandolin strings

Anybody know what kind of strings are installed on my 5002? Or, more to the point, when it comes time for a change which set should I look for? Or must I make a set from individual strings (gauges, please?). I need ball ends, not loops. Thanks for your consideration. :)

Jeff, I went there, too but it looks like too much work to figure out.

Thanks, Evan, that makes it easy. :)

I use a micrometer on any new guitars that show up here so I can determine what gauge of string is on them. You must have a friend who has a micrometer...........no?

Ball end mandolin strings are almost impossible to find over here. If and when you find some can you post the details here, Kira?

Will do, Aitch! Those RIC brand strings look promising if they come back in stock. When they do I could ship you some.

I had similar difficulty until someone (Jason maybe?) suggested buying individual guitar strings in the recommended gauges and cutting them short.

Seemed to work out ok.

They are just regular electric guitar strings. Just buy singles from your favorite brand. I think I have a set of the RIC strings at home... I'll save them in case they appreciate one day like the old flats!

I use these - nickel-plated, ball-end, but a little heavier than the Rickenbacker gauges:

Got them from Musician's Friend here:
