I have a 1966 335 that is all-original. I have had trouble over the years with the pickup selector switch, with intermittent problems and static. Each time I've dealt with it differently, including sand paper and taking it to techs. This time I opened it up, and there was a reddish ooze between 2 of the contacts, and some ooze on the bottom of the switch itself. Not a lot. So I wiped it out with a bit of sand paper and now I get no sound at all.
I'm relatively certain that there are no other connection issues, including the socket. Any thoughts? I have a feeling I'm bound for a new switch, but would prefer to avoid it.

It sounds like the composite material used to insulate between contacts has decomposed. The composite is typically a binder like cellulose that has been saturated with a polymer resin such as phenolic (formaldehyde-phenolic resin) and then pressed and/or heated into forms (sheets, etc.) that can be fabricated. I'm speculating that the resin has decomposed and is the source of the oozing. You will probably have to replace the switch.
