Someone on Talkbass posted this earlier today. I thought it was pretty cool and I'm sure you will too!

Cool. Love how the bass was totally ground down thru gigging.

Interesting solution....

"Lemmy had requested an extra fret (needs it for the song Metropolis) - this was achieved by removing the strip of neck binding and creating a brass raised binding piece on the edge of the fretboard."

Notice how the added pickup cover and surround on the 4004LK has now been gold plated to match the rest of the hardware.

That fret idea is pretty clever!

:D ...some year ago I did request the same to Paul W. when he refurbished my 4001. The binding was retained, as in this high fret a bit of bending already gets the correct tone! :D

I thought there was some info a while back where he had Ric do a re-fin on it long ago, I recall seeing a video of John Hall removing it from a case at Ric HQ, or maybe that was another one of his LK's.

Gotta be honest, this recent one seems like a less than ideal re-fin. I understand that working musicians can't afford the long queue to get to top guys like Paul W, but I just wasn't impressed by this fellows work. Maybe they were lousy pics, or not enough pics of the final job. I dunno. Or maybe Lemmy's axe was just sooooo beat to heck, that this fellow did all he could short of pronouncing the patient DOA.

What's the other model next to his 4004LK?

The bass of Lemmy's that RIC had was an unmodified 4001S or RM1999.

I just noticed that the frets were removed/installed with the binding in place. Am I wrong or is that odd?
