I'm pretty sure it's a faker but need your opinion before I report it to eBay.

My gut on this was that it was a faker.

Serial number checks out but there's lots of new parts there and some serious refinishing.

A factory '71 fretboard wouldn't have the 19th dot.

Looks like the bubinga was stained dark to look like ebony.

neither would it have two position markers at the nut.
Maybe the fretboard is new, but I think the bass is genuine.
It would absolutely be too much trouble to fake truss rod diving issues like this one seems to have suffered.

I don't think it's a faker either. The tailpiece is definitely an AllParts unit though.

Nice piece of maple for the neck.

I don't see anything except the weird tailpiece that gives me any red flags. I think John A. is right about the stained board, and of course Dane is correct on the tailpiece. The new parts look a bit strange on this--it looks like a much later instrument at first glance (until you notice the differences in profile, neck width and headstock shape, that is...). Weird paint scheme, though. Odd Japanese strap pegs.
HOW much?

I think it's the real deal. At least, what's left of it. I actually kinda like it. I've got a soft spot for 'S' type models from that era.

Even with all the mods, it's very cool.

I'd consider buying it at it's current price, but I bet it gets bid up. Seems decent enough. Not sure what the "two small anchors" are doing, though. Fretboard separation?
I like the dark/light/dark aesthetic, reminiscent of a 4004Ci but more of a contrast.

OK, good thing I consulted you guys before reporting to eBay what might be a genuine Ric.
For me the red lights were the dark fretboard and strings misalignment with the neck.
