Bangles - "Sweetheart of the Sun"

On Tuesday, I picked up the new Bangles record Sweetheart of the Sun, the Barnes & Noble edition with acoustic versions of two tracks. For you Bangle fans here, I say pick it up. Matthew Sweet did a good job producing it, as there's no auto-pitch correction or anything like that. It's more mature, far removed from the '80s poppiness of Different Light, kind of like All Over the Place meets Doll Revolution. Something cool from the record, Vicki Peterson uses a 12-string electric for a couple of songs. Whether it's one of Susanna's Ric 12-strings, a Fender XII or anything like that, it's hard to tell, but what I do know is that she is using distortion, which is always a cool sound. Susanna only has the lead for two songs, but has four songs where she sings with Debbi and Vicki in a 3-part lead vocal, each of their voices coming in clearly. Susanna also sounds like she's enunciating the words, which makes it sound cleaner.
The Bangles are back, and probably here to stay.

I've been hearing bits on the radio, it is good. Sounds like them, only modern.

Thanks for posting this, Jake. I just ordered a copy. It was good to see that they covered "Open My Eyes", written by a teenaged (18?) Todd Rundgren back in the '60's. It was an A-side single from the first Nazz album. One of my early garage bands did the song. The Nazz version has a bass line that was a lot of fun to play. Tom

Anything with electric 12 is okay by me! I'll have to get my hands on a copy.

Also worth getting hold of are the two Susannah Hoffs / Matthew Sweet 'Under the covers' albums.
Marvelous faithful versions of some great songs on there.

The first one (60s stuff) was great!
The second one (70s material) not so much.
YMMV.

I received and played my copy of the CD. Susanna's voice has gotten quite raspy over the years and it's evident on the CD. That would have probably been sweetened up before any autotune was applied, if they were so inclined. Besides, the group could vocalize/harmonize fairly well back in the days before autotune existed. The 12-string is most likely Susanna's Guild Starfire, played by Vicki.

Anyone ever seen/heard them perform the Beatles' "Yes It Is"
a Capella live?
