I'm gonna do the cap thing, but I now realize there are many different kinds.(can caps,etc...)
Which type or even brand? is used in the older 4001's?

I got a couple of those things that I ripped out of some 4001 basses ... I prefer the sound of a bass without a bass cut capaciter ...
I think you might find one at Radio shack for like $1 or something ...
Or some of the Ric resellers have carry them ...
the capaciter cuts off all frequency response below a certain frequency ... basically it eliminates all the bass and low mids from that pickup ...
It is a .0047 capaciter ... you can get the wiring diagram from the Ric website ... Rickenbacker obsoleted this feature in 1980 ...

I picked mine up at Radio Shack
(this one to be exact.)
Definitely a cool sound, but I ended up taking it out again because overall I prefer the fatter uncapped sound. Time to get another Rick bass to have one that's capped.

(I know I could just install a toggle switch or push-pull pot, but I'm just looking for another excuse to get another bass.)
