Fender Classic Rocker

Does anyone know much (anything) about this Fender model, that has lots of Gretsch-like features? I first learned of this guitar from a book I have with a photo of a red one; it seems to have checker binding (the one in my book, and this photo). 
I have seen another photo, on-line, of one with what seems to be FilterTron pickups; the one in the book has Dynasonics with white bobbins.
