Latest plantings in the Forest

I've been remiss in documenting some of my more recent additions to the Rickenbacker National Forest. Some time ago, I purchased two projects from Bryce Gracey up there in Canada, hey. One was a badly treated 1972 Jetglo 4001 that Bryce found and sent to Larry Davis for restoration. The other was a 4001CS that needed refinishing and went to Paul Wilczynski. The CS project has been a protracted one, but I should be receiving it soon.

I had Larry give the '72 a bright version of Azureglo, so it looks very much like the restorations that Steve Garner and Darren Trott had done a few years ago. She looks brand new now, with non-yellowed sparkly inlays and new binding. The tailpiece/bridge assembly is new and not vintage, one compromise I made to an authentic restoration.

At this year's MARF, I bought a badly yellowed 4003SPC Tuxedo from Eric Kutzler and had Larry Davis strip it and apply a clear matt finish. Now she's a "Naked Tux" and shows off all that lovely maple hidden for so long.

And last, I swapped out the chrome hardware for gold on this gorgeous Turquoise 4004. While it is officially a Laredo, I discovered the body wings were made with the maple/walnut/maple sandwich, so now with the gold hardware, it's even more like a Cheyenne II than ever.

I'm jealous.

I love the Naked Tuxedo.

Well, love them all but that Tux makes me cry.

Here's the CS in June. There was a specific shipping problem and a hardware problem that needed to be addressed, so it went back to PW for action. It should look almost exactly like this when it returns.

Oh yeah! Love the naked tux, beautiful maple! That bright AZ is nice too. Is that what they looked like new?

Azureglo over the years varied quite a bit. Usually it is a duller blue with a hint of green (but that could be yellowing top coat). John Minutaglio has an Azureglo 4005 that is positively Navy blue. I'm not that fussy about how it "should" look as I wanted the blue to be a bright medium blue.

OK. I've always wondered what it's "supposed" to look like. I've got a '76 that I think is just a wonderful color, but have always wondered what it looked like when it left the factory. This pic looks pretty close to the actual color, at least on my display:

I always pictured it the colour of a blue pool ball (Solid). Paul said previously that its hard to judge by pictures though.
