I like this part:
At the time I was used to Rick pickups "so when I ran out of Rickenbackers one day".....
A true Pete-ism. I saw him live in the '60s break a few Fenders so I think he had also run out of Ricks by the time he got to my neck of the woods.

That's not a short scale guitar.

Oh...I guess the website was wrong.
Pete Townshend used a three-pickup Grimshaw Short Scale semi-hollow guitar from December 1965 to January 1966

I could be wrong, but looking at the placement of the frets tells me it couldn't be far from full size. Some people think that 24" is short scale because it's shorter than a Fender ... I don't know for sure.

The placement of the three pickups denotes that it could be full scale as well. Maybe the writer of the article saw the large body, and saw the neck as small compared to the body. Maybe it is a "Midscale" I wonder when the jump is between full scale and shortscale, because alot of instruments have different measurements, and are considered short or long scale.

Hi all,
According to WhoTabs, the guitar is "a three-pickup Grimshaw Short Scale semi-hollow guitar from December 1965 to January 1966". (Source:
http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/guitar/grimshaw.html).
If you are not familiar with the source site, you should check it out. It's nicely done and accessible via
http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/index.php. I really dig this site and have referred to it for multiple reasons over several years. In fact, this is the site that comfirmed for me that it's really OK to set up your own combinations of string gauges (See:
http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/guitar/strings.html).
I'm not sure if this info's been posted on this forum before, but if you're interested in equipment specs, check out the following URLS:
