A little esoteria or is it esoterica?
I think this is the Model CW that eventually became the Jerry Byrd Model. I've never seen a CW before. Not that there are many differences in the postwar consoles. Enjoy.

Sometimes the disinterest in this forum is more interesting than the subjects that evoke interest. At least one other BB is interested.

I looked at the auction, and wondered about this comment:

this guitar may date back as far as the 1930's, but again I don't know for sure.

If the price stays reasonable, this could be fun to have and learn to play steel (this comment comes after just reading the VG article on Bob Black!).

I'm pretty sure Rick didn't make any console models until the mid 50s. This might be their earliest.

I dunno. It looks to me like it has a serial number on the jack plate. I know a lot of the console steels from the '50s had the serial number stamped into the wood instead of the plate. My '58 has it stamped in wood, my '60 has it on the plate...

I asked the seller about the legs; those and the mounting hardware for them are AWOL.

I talked with the seller about the serial number on the jack plate. He's updated the listing to show that is has a 1963 manufacturing date...

My Info leads me to believe that the CW was the first Rick console.
The 22.5" eventually became the Jerry Byrd model.

The JB and the CW were produced until 1971.

I think RIC selling horseshoes again has something to do with that. This never would have gone for as cheap as $200 a year or three ago.

Yeah, I almost went for it, to get the horseshoe, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy something just to pull parts off of it...

It's too pretty and unique to strip.

I was going to go for it to see if I could actually learn to play it.

I love my steels, but the lap steel is too hard to fret--the action is really high, and the double-neck is too much work. I only have two hands...
