KEN'S '76 3001

This bass is the first 3001 I've done, after over a hundred 4000-series instruments. It was originally a very shabby JG, and the neck and headstock had lost its vibrant appearance. It still sounded great, though, so Ken sent it to me for a makeover. We had originally agreed on re-doing the JG, but when I got the old finish stripped off, it displayed a real nice even, if unspectacular, grain. I told Ken that a nice burst would do it justice, and he asked for "something in red".
I sprayed it AFG, but with a twist--the red shading has lots of red pearl to make it reflective. You can still see the wood grain under it, but now the color virtually shimmers. The neck was refretted and refinished in ambered MG.
Whatta doll!
Happy Thanksgiving, RRFers!

I think this is one of those cases where photos can't do justice to the real thing. It must be seen in the flesh.

That style of burst really suits the bass.

I've always loved rick's "student" guitars and basses-- even those that just sort of have that vibe. awsome.
