HI everyone, I have just subscribed. I am looking for a scratchplate for my well worn 1964 RM 1999 (4001S export model I Think!!) loads on the internet but very confusing as there are lots of different ones. I need some expert advice before I commit to buy. Thanks Garry

Garry:
Pickguardian is your best bet for a replacement scratchplate that matches your original..
Now please share some info and pictures of your bass... We never get tired of looking at them...

Yes, welcome Garry. It's always nice when another RM 1999 appears.
Brian is correct if you are here in the States. Are you located here? Or the UK/Oz?

Thankyou Brian and Andrew, I live in the UK and bought this bass just after I left school in 1969, I paid £75 and paid monthly. I was not earning much and it broke the bank. I have used this tremendous guitar up until about 10 years ago when age took the better of me. The bass has suffered under me under the years, I have fitted a XLR connection as well as the jack plate which is a vast improvement in reliability. It has been sanded down to the bare wood and have fitted a Fender jazz pickup to the bridge. This bass still plays and sounds incredible. but the scratchplate is cracked and really lets it down. Unfortunately I binned the horseshoe pickup but would never have re fitted it. I will send some pics as soon as I can suss out how to use this site. I am very greatful for your responses to my query albiet a long way away.
Thanks for now Garry

Garry,
I'm from the UK originally as well. so your not that far away really! There's nothing wrong having used a bass for 30 years as a tool for what it's meant to do. If you want send the photo's to me at
[email protected] and I'll post them if you wish.
Where in the UK are you, if you don't mind me asking?

Garry,
Thanks. Actually, Pete Greenwood, who is a long time member here is close to you, in Manchester. He has owned many RM1999 basses over the years and is a great guy to chat with about these basses. I'm sure he'll check in here soon...
Pete?
