i found a 1967 Fender Coronado II bass at my local pawn shop last weekend. it appears to be in close to perfect conditions,plays well. i think the original flat wounds were on it until recently,the frets like everything else look pristine. its a 3 color burst (my least favorite fender finish),any idea what this puppy should be worth? i only vaguely remember these appearing and disappearing unloved apparently briefly . playing it,it seems like a really nice hollow body,with a very woody thumpy sound,and i hardly even noticed it was a short scale neck. (bigg body and small neck,kind of strange). they are asking $1500,as i said it works,and appears to be in exemplary shape. i don't think i am going to go for it,but was interested in your opinions, after doing a little research i found out it was one of Roger R's post-rickenbacker designs.

An interesting looking instrument, also available as a 6-string and 12-string guitar. They seem rather uncommon, with not a lot of transactions to go by.

Gbase (http://www.gbase.com shows a Fender Coronado II bass for sale for $1,650, and a Coronado I for sale for $1,499.

There is one for sale on ebay at the moment for $1,999 Buy It Now or Best Offer. So, $1,500 seems like the right range if you want it ...

Yep, in my Big Book of Fender (Fender: The Golden Age), the Cornado guitars and basses are discussed. They were said to have felt cheap compared to a hollowbody like a Gretsch, Gibson or Ric, because it was bolt-on neck or something like that.

The one pickup bass is intriguing to me, though

Tony,that bass is beautiful! i came across the bass here completely by chance,and had a hard time getting the guy at the pawn shop to let me touch,let alone,play it,but i did manage to do so for a few minutes. (some things never change,another subject...) but i would definitely say having played any number of basses over the years,this bass felt very solid and not at all 2nd tier in quality. it certainly was more substantial than any Hofner i have ever played,and had a pretty similar sound. i would be more intrigued,but this is not at all a good time for me to think of spending more money on basses.....i might talk to them about trades,but it is a pawn shop,so i think that may be any uphill battle....i do have 3 inexpensive basses i could trade. (not any of my ricks).

I had a Coronado 6-string guitar I sold in the mid 90's because it wasn't nearly as good as my Korean Casino. Let it go for $500, I think. They weren't fetching anywhere near a grand then.

Never played a Coronado guitar I liked, but I always wanted to try one of the basses.

wow-the wildwood coronado II bass at olivia's is listed at $4395.....must be the rare finish...looks like they had a sunburst coronado I,but it sold. John,i had always heard these basses were not so very good,but i have to say i was pretty impressed with the feel,and the sound seemed really nice. (it was being played through a karaoke machine! )
i will probably let this dog sleep a while-i can't imagine anyone around here buying it anytime soon.....see how they feel about it after the first of the year.....the pickups in these were Dearmond,evidently that was a first for Fender at the time to use outsourced pickups.....

Roger Rossmeisl was a true great designer. Besides our beloved Rickenbacker guitars and basses and the Fender Coronado, he also designed the Fender Telecaster Thinline which is my favorite Telecaster style guitar.

true enough,Ivan! but i am not in a good position to negotiate,and i need another bass like ....well i Do NOT need another bass.
of course,not needing another has never stopped me before,but i am pretty well mortgaged up right now with a new roof,patio,blah blah blah....
i believe i will just have to be content with the 6 basses i have now....as it is 2 of them seldom ever get touched,i rotate playing the 3 ricks at practices,and i reserve the frankenjazz for bar gigs. even though the coronados are rare and all,i guess i am just a bit too picky-if this bass were white,black,red,or almost any other finish (except antiqua,,too,erg) , i would probably be more interested.

Even if you buy it, you might make a small profit. Or you could do a trade and get a nice colour for the one you have. I absolutely love antigua by the way. I'll probably have one of my instruments refinned in that one day. Three tone sunburst is not for me though. I'm more of a two tone guy.
