Its back again! Same seller, same blurred photo of decidedly wrong looking bass...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2370835993

The serial number is missing (unless its magically sprouted one since the last attempt to sell it), and the seller can't/won't verify any other aspects of the bass, he is uncooperative and evasive. Might be an idea for us to email him some questions and post the replies here, lets see what he says now.

I've forgotten most of my German from high school but I swear that second line says

"You experts can't touch this with a 10 foot poll"

Either that or they're bad driving directions...

Reminds me of something P.T. Barnum once said....

I think the second line is something to the effect that, “I’m throwing in a 10 meter cable."
This would be about a 30’, give or take.

Authenticity wise on the bass, I wouldn't bet the farm on it either. Any Dutch readers here? I've know a couple that knew German pretty well.

This all reminds me of that scene in "Top Secret" when the character says, “I know a little German", and waves and a midget at another table in a Tyrolean hat with a feather in it and Lederhosen waves back. Ha!

Hi all! I'm new here but have been reading for a couple of weeks. I don't have a Ric yet but I'm focused on it and plan to find a used workhorse I can gig with by spring. I asked this guy for the seial # and CLEAR pics and this is the rsponse I got. Seems friendly but bid on this? Nein, das ist verboden!

hi farmertom,
i'm sorry, i can't send you more photos or tell you the serial number. i
can't take more pictures because my camera is broken (no joke). the serial
numer i simply can't find. please don't try to give me hints where it could
be. i have had an auction with the same bass some weeks ago and everybody
mailed me where it could be but i can't find it. but don't worry, i still
have the original receipt form when i bought the bass ant on this bill there
stands that it is from the 60s. so there's no dougt about the originality
and value.
i hope i could help you on.

greetings

Stefan

doesn't he have any friends he can borrow a camera from? Hell all he needs to do is buy a cheap disposable camera from the corner store and scan the pictures at a photocopy shop. If he's asking 1900 freaking Euros for the damned thing then that's the least he could do.

You read my mind, Michael! And if everyone is telling him where the serial number is, and it's not there, then that should tell him something. A receipt from when HE got swindled doesn't make it legit.

Steve, I couldn't have put it better! Just because he was sold it as a '62 bass, he thinks he can palm it off to someone else. Is he really that stupid? My past experience with this guy was terrible, he called me a "rubbish amateur" and told me that I was lying about the incorrect parts to lever the price down, how could I be right when the shop he bought it from said it was a '62? Bahahahaha!. He used the EXACT same line with me about the extra photos (even the "no joke" line), and he refuses point blank to look at the pots, or even verbally describe the binding or the neck heel. Run like hell. Shame we can't see a photo or scan of his famous reciept, could be good for a laugh!

I'm sure he would scan the receipt for us, but his scanner is broken (no joke!)

has someone directed him to this forum?

I doubt it would do any good. He knows from the previous auction that the bass cannot be confirmed as legitimate unless he takes some steps he refuses to take. That tells me it can't be confirmed and he knows it, but he's trying to pass it off anyway.

What's the correct German word? Betrüger? Schwindler?

Personally, I'd prefer that he not be directed to this forum, who needs him?
