Question about a 82 Fender P Bass

Just a quick question.
I've got a friend down here who has an 82 or 92 I can't recall, Fender P-bass. I love the tone, I HATE the neck.
He hasn't used it in years, it just sits out on a stand in his office. He has hands like a gorilla!
I know ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH about Fenders. It says Made in USA Fullerton CA on it. I heard at one time, P-basses had a thin neck? Is that true?
Are Fender Jazz necks interchangeable with the P-bass necks?
His wife offered me the bass for free a while ago, but I felt funny taking it. My buddy hasn't played in YEARS and I didn't want to take his last bass.
It's BLACK too, BELCH! I put a new set of TI's on it a few years back and I'm looking for the TONE to play on New Years Eve, I thought of asking if I could borrow it.
If they offer it to me again, I'd like to change out that neck, IF they are interchangeable.
Thanks!

Hi Tony, not 100% sure on the interchangeability of the necks, but "Made in Fullerton" would make it an '82 and a very nice bass at that!
If it's one of the "Fullerton" reissues (the original Fender Reissue series, made using original tooling, deep contours, thin nitro finishes, etc) it's a very desirable bass to boot. They are still thought of as the most accurate reissues Fender has ever done. I have two of 'em, a Jazz and a Tele.

The necks are interchangeable.
Agreed on the early '80s Fullertons being a desirable bass; you refused one?

For free???

YES, it was BLACK! What did you think I would do!!!
Thanks John, I appreciate the information.
I guess I'll give him a call and ask to BORROW it!

Perhaps, he won't ask for it back if he thinks I'll use it!
Jeff, the guys wife offered it to me, and the guys had these sad puppy eyes, if felt wrong. BUT, she's hinting again, so I'll see what I can do.

Oh yeah, I forgot one word,
extremely, which should have gone in between
a (which should have been
an) and
desirable.

If Tony doesn't want it, I'll take it (for free!).
I'll pay for the shipping, too.

There's a lineup Jeff and you are very close to the back.

Um, if someone wants a Fender bass; I have a near spotless Jetglo, er black, Geddy Lee J-bass in a non-Fender "Freedom" SKB HSC, I'd trade plus cash for a similar condition recent 4003 in Jetglo, preferably one with the new FWI.

Too late!

You met her Jdog, as a matter of fact, you bought some of her goodies!
They get in a "CLEAN OUT" mode every now and then. He had originally said he'd get rid of it, so she just asked me!
