Casey Jane and Teaser

Post by beatbyrd »

Cool idea for a subforum.

My family is currently dogless, having lost our second one right around Halloween. It's the first time in 17 years and the energy level around our house has dropped considerably. The black and white one was Casey (born in Apple Valley, CA. 1994 - 2008). Knew and responded to well over 80 different words and phrases. The red (or liver or brown) and white one was Teaser (born in Ontario, Canada 1998 - 2011). She was part Tasmanian Devil and would eat anything. As a puppy, she ate parts of 3 wooden chairs, the kitchen cabinets, the vinyl floor, the sheetrock walls, and metal vertical blinds. A $2500 set of meals. Both of these dogs lived for chasing a well thrown tennis ball.

We're still missing them very much and are chasing the ghosts in our house.
Here's a picture from their prime:

I'll agree completely with your first statement; Border Collies are the best.... We can never own another less intelligent dog.
As far as getting a quick replacement, it's too early and unfair to get a 'rebound' dog. Maybe in mid 2012 we'll think about getting a pair of rescue BCs. A lot of them end up in rescue because they are extremely high maintenance and when bored or not given proper exercise, can cause a world of trouble. They are not 'throw them in the backyard and forget them' dogs. My wife and I are older and less likely to want to deal with the energy that puppies require. We could handle a couple of older ones that have mellowed out a bit. Now that this subforum is active, I'll post pics when the time comes. Tom

Yeah, I know how that goes. It took us forever to get over the loss of one of ours, Billy. Heck, we're still not over it even a few years later. And as for chasing balls, Billy lived for balls...

Edit:
Just snapped a pic of our "replacements" (though they will never be able to replace Billy), Dylan standing) and Skye...

I finally found an old (1996) picture of Casey, flying about a foot over the ground (to elude radar), on her way to get a renegade tennis ball. Notice the aerodynamic front leg tuck that she has going on. The dog is haulin'.....
(and no, we don't need to get a puppy) Tom

Man, I've seen that a million times and still love it!

OK, maybe you don't need a puppy just yet, but one day, you'll have to get another border. Life is just not complete without them...
