Rickresource Rickenbacker Forum

I know there are many bassists who visit this site that rarely go into the other forums besides Rickenbacker Basses within the RRF. I was like that myself for long time. Topics covering bass amps and other bass related gear may wind up getting moved to either one of the Vibrola section forums or Others. This is in the interest of putting topics in appropriate forums, making it easier on moderators and letting hosts of other forums have enough topics to entertain.
The Markbass thread and Lonnie's thread "Need Some Advise" about playing Ricks tough an Ampeg BR4 is there in Forum 51- The Quest For Tone, in the Vibrola Section. So anyone that likes plugging Ricks into Ampeg amps, by all means go help him out. Ampeg amps were never my thing, sorry.
I know some of the bassists do go to the other forums, but they are the ones that play at least some guitar as well. So my fellow bassists, get out there to other forums as well. There's a whole lotta great info and good people (even if they ARE guitarists ) to interact and be friends with.

I won't leave this topic sticky for long. I just want to get this message out.

Joey, if I may, the way I have always browsed this forum was by clicking "View active topics", rather then just going section by section. This way, you get all the up-to-date threads regardless of section. I can't imagine browsing the forum any other way. Some of the bass-only guys may find this helpful if they're looking to branch out without being overwhelmed.

I always look at new post in every forum, why limit oneself?

BTW, John, shouldn't you be busy with something else besides the RRF? Aren't you supposed to be looking for new acquisitions for the coming New Year?

Excellent tip JB! I've gotten a lot out of the RRF without having to reveal the limitless depths of my ignorance since stumbling onto the "View Active Topics" feature!

That Ampeg at Gary's sounded really good last night. It sounded nothing like an Ampeg.

sorry...the only svt's note worthy are '69-'79...a good ten year run of growley,bottom end deafness !

So many sub-forums here, personally I would much rather see all things Ric bass related in one click, from pickup winding to Francesco's videos. I honestly don't see why, for example, a separate fretless Ric forum is needed. But this is Peter's home and I'm just a guest here and respect his rules.

This is what has happened from Peter's kindness to try to be accommodating to everyone. Maybe we can possibly work out a Rick Basses related section instead of having the bass info scattered?

You're right John, it's mostly the guys (mostly guitarists, but some bassists) who have been here a long time that use the New Posts or Active Topics links. So this is good advise.

i carried an svt in one hand, a '76 p-bass and MD-1252 in the other plus a backpack of clothes from moncton new brunswick to buffalo via montreal and toronto ,on a train switching three times all for an audition that i refused three weeks later and took a bus back via boston ! that's stamina !!!

that was 1980 btw.

Right now, if I wanted to be updated on all bass related posts in the RRF, I'd have to browse 16 sub-forums. I don't use the "view active topics" link because I have little interest in Ric 6/12 guitars other than the lower half of a 4080

So, for example, a new guy posts a question about a '73 4001 in the Vintage 54-84 forum. Supposedly he's in the right place. He gets two responses. I think the guy had better chances of getting more info and opinions had there been only one Ric bass sub-forum. Just a random recent example.

Again, just a suggestion, I can be also happy with things as they are. This is a great place either way.

User control panel > Board preferences > Edit posting defaults > Notify me upon replies by default: *Yes.

In my view the people make this place what it is............if you stick strictly to the bass section you are going to miss out interacting with a whole lot of very nice people.

If I had just stuck strictly to the guitar section for example, I would never have had a chance to record with Joey, and become friends with Tony and a whole bunch of other great bass players like Angelo, Gil, Jeff S, Brian S, Dane Paul Terry, Kira and so on. I also would not have become friends with Roy Clough (Clough's Classics) or Paul W who have their own sections.

I could list so many people that I have become friends with that the list would go on for ages.

My advice is ..........bass players who do not venture past their segment of the forum.......... get out there and make friends. That enhances the forum experience ten fold.
