Compressor with a Ric?

Wondering if anyone can recommend a good compressor that works well with the Ric, I have a 4001 (73) and am looking to add a compressor to my setup, hopefully something that isn't TOO expensive!

Hoping that under $200 is within your budget, I would recommend the RNC from FMR Audio.

get the bass pod ... you get compression, tuner, amp modeler, cab modeler, distortion, other effects ... it will make a ****** amp sound good and a good amp sound great ...

Pod, schmod - the best compressor (and overdrive!) I've found is my '73 SVT about halfway up.
Seriously, though, what kind of amp are you using?

I am using a Peavey NitroBass head, 450w @ 2 ohms, with this DDT speaker protection. It has an annoying little habit of clipping (audibly!)everytime I hit a note really hard, so the compressor would smooth everything out nicely.

I have a Bellari Tube Compressor/Limiter model LA120. It has Level and Threshold control, 2 XLR inputs and 2 1/4" inputs. I don't use it any more now that I have 2 tube amps. I ran my 4003(v63 mods) and 4001v63 through it into a old Acoustic head and it can really squash the sound. It's simple and easy to use. If you're interested, maybe we can work out a deal.

I've the Boss Limiter/Enhancer, but still to try it on my 4003 which arrives on Wednesday.
I'll try it at rehearsals on Thurs.

I use an Alesis 3630. 2 channel compressor/limiter/noise gate. You can get them new for under $100. It does the job.

I used to have a Presonus Blue Max. Very nice and flexible plus the presets are handy until you learn how to dial in things for yourself. Plus they are quite inexpensive.

the Tech 21 bass compactor is a really good unit. Nice little stomp box.

A Tech 21 Bass Compactor is part of my setup. For $99 it is a great little unit.

I use a Blackbox Oxygen. They're not real common, but they turn up on eBay from time to time for ~$175 (I bought mine from Guitar Player editor Barry Cleveland, of all people).
It's a compressor and noise gate, and also can provide some overdrive. I originally bought it to use with guitar - it adds a subtle '3D' quality that really enhances overdriven tone - but it's a great bass unit as well, especially to add a subtle bit of dirt. Great with my Hamer 12-string.

Thanks everyone for the input, and Bob, I also play a Hamer 12 string, so that's nice to hear that it works well with that also. Everyone here gave me a ton of options that I hadn't thought of, and Thanks!
