Caught that, too! I thought he might have a 4002 at first, then I stopped the vid for a look-see. Nope. (Yes, I'm still kicking myself for letting that 4002 pass by at $700 in the late '90s. What could I do, though? It was another of those sacrifices of a very poor student....)

Still, there's nothing like a good ol' mime-to-the-track session either.

I remember watching that at the time. I was disappointed at the vacant delivery then, but that was the point he was making about the event. It was a very punk thing to mess up the "show" by missing the mime.

The pickguard is an interesting solution.

In Canada, at the time, we hung off every Weller word. We didn't have TOTP, but we did catch them on SNL. Jam albums were magic sent from the Gods.

They were THE BAND of my late teenage years and my introduction to Rickenbackers. It was hard work at the time tracking down import copies of their releases in Australia. Their record label released the first couple of albums and then seemed to ignore them during the classic All Mod Cons/Setting Sons period. As a result I do have a very nice Japanese version of All Mod Cons and some of the singles around 1978 1979 though :D

Back in the late-'70s, I scored a set of Jam picture cover singles (up to, but not including, Setting Sons-period) from a couple of fellows who emigrated from the UK around 1978-79. In fact, they had an enormous collection of vinyl that changed my life. The first time we met, they said, "You look just like a Brighton Mod". I had no idea what a Mod was at that point, though I had all the moves, clothes & tastes, apparently. Now I have a few Rics, too

It would be great to have all Jam recordings remastered. I find them to sound pretty harsh/thin nowadays, which is a shame because it detracts from the power of the music. What're your thoughts?

Personally, I think that's the way the Jam is supposed to sound.

You've had me firing up my Jam albums and got me thinking. Is anyone interested in getting a "Jam" session together in Toronto?

This thread is very timely. I just got a 330 a few days ago and this thread made me give her a go with some Jam songs.
I've always loved "Wasteland." I've been playing that one on my new Ric every time I pick her up.

I found this one without the recorder. You can hear the guitar better.

very tough for those from the u.s., that do not have the required passport/enhanced licence to travel into canada, and is an expensive venture and time consuming to say the least. i've had my passport since the '88 tour with maiden and go to toronto/barrie quarterly.

Ron:

Next time you are coming to Ontario we should plan a small RRF get together I think...

Does not have to be as large or formal as our last RIC get together. I would be nice to jam again with some fellow RIC enthusiasts...

The 'Direction, Reaction, Creation' box set is digitally remastered.
Polydor did an OK job with the remastering, but I hope that the back catalogue gets a real top class remastering one day.

The remastering certainly benefits the songs around the time of the 'Sound Affects' album, and one or two of the later songs which were originally over or poorly produced, but on the rest of the material, particularly the first 3 albums, I haven't heard anything that sounds better than the original vinyl versions.

Completely agree. That is spot on Rob.
