370/12 nut help

Been really enjoying my white 370/12, but fretting at the nut is an issue. I've read that I can get a wider nut which seems to be a help to many. Where can I get the wider replacement? Tried to look within the site here but my access is restricted since I don't have enough postings. Never had that "issue" before as I am a member of several other guitar forums, and there are no minimums there.

Hi Corey welcome to the RRF.............we have a minimum of 30 posts required to access our marketplace. It would be rather unlikely that you would be able to find a new nut there in any event.

Our resident expert luthier is Paul W (Jingle Jangle) if you post in his section I am quite confident that he would be able to assist in some manner. We also have several other luthiers that populate the board also. A little bit of research might also be the order of the day if you are in a hurry. Our search function works extremely well.

Corey, depending upon how new your 370 is, it may already have been fitted with a wider-spaced nut as original.

If it's more than about 4 years old, it will probably have the nut with narrower spacing. With a bit of careful work, it can be swapped with the later 12-string nut, which can be ordered from RIC through their website "Boutique".

A quick word, though...factory replacement nuts are made taller than needed so that each guitar may be custom-fitted. So, you'll have to remove the old nut, line it up with the curved top of the new nut, and scribe a new bottom edge. You should then file or sand the new nut to the scribe line, and reglue it into place after cleaning the slot and fretboard edge so it fits cleanly.

If all this is a bit too much for you, get the new nut and get it installed by a reputable luthier who has an acquaintance with Rickenbackers.

Most other forums require $$ to gain access, for selling, anyway.

If it is a nut you are looking for, either the RIC Boutique, as mentioned above by Paul, or you can purchase one from a RIC dealer that stocks parts, such as Pick Of The Ricks. 8) It is unlikely that you would find nuts for sale here, anyway, for the most part (no pun intended, I think  ).

Corey, There are plenty of nuts here, but most of us aren't for sale (though my wife might have a different opinion on that). They're also a topic that gets discussed fairly frequently with a variety of opinions, desires and solutions. One of the more recent threads that you might find interesting is here:

Thanks everyone for the help. I had searched for info here prior to posting, which was how I learned that getting a wider nut was an option. Paul, my 370 is from '99 and is the narrower spaced nut. Taking the guitar to my luthier tomorrow and I'll see what he says as well as finding the nut from the sources mentioned above.

I see Paul found this thread Corey. You have received some great advice from other members too. :D Good luck with changing the nut.
