700C SLANT FRET FOR BOB COMBS

This one's been in the works for awhile, but it shipped a few days after Christmas and Bob got it a couple of days ago.

It's my first slant fret Rickenbacker acoustic, and it was a fun project. I sent it to Bob with the pickguard "on the side" ( in the case) at his request, so he could put it on himself after he'd given it a bit of thought. I think his wife is talking him into it, though, at last report.

The finish is transparent red with shading in burgundy, deep brown, and violet, and it features several different subtle pearl toners. The result is that indoors, it's a gorgeous, rich wine red with deeper shading to the burst. Outdoors in bright sunlight, or on stage, it bursts into color with an amazing flop to the maple and also to the pearl toners, which allow the maple grain to show through.

Other features like bound headstock and LRBaggs iMix pickup system, complete the package.

Lovely, as always.

Paul, you say this is your first slant-fret Rickenbacker acoustic - did RIC produce them itself in the past, back when it made acoustics in the factory? I wasn't aware of RIC ever using slant frets on anything besides the 481, but I know very little about Rickenbacker acoustics.

Slant frets were theoretically available on other models than the 481, while the option was offered. I have seen a number of 360s, and of course there's that one famous 341/12SF...

I am unaware of any other Rickenbacker acoustic with this feature. Slant frets give me no difficulty, make ergonomic sense, and should have been more popular, IMO.

This one's a beauty, Paul. It looks great w/o the pickguard but unless I was going to only do finger-style I would worry about buggering up the finish. Slant frets. I'll have to try them some time, was it more of a challenge because of the frets?

+1. Now there's an option that I never would have thought anyone would ever ask for. That's a beauty, Paul. :)

Add the pickguard Bob...........it looks great and it will save the lower sound hole area from wear and tear. :D Congrats on this beauty of a guitar too.

I love the colour Paul. Another first eh? :D I have never tired slant frets but I suspect that they would be very comfortable to play.
