Hi guy's it's been a while. I have a rci 4001 1979 in the WT/BT I was considering selling but I have never seen lower prices on vintage rics like this ever so am trying to hold off as long as I can. In the meantime this bass has some great mojo and all kinds of the typical finsih yellowing and cracking and checking etc. overall the bass is in pretty good shape. Not sure how to load photo's in the post. The tone and volume knobs seem to me to very authentic but they do not have the words printed on them the way I remember my 4003 and other later ric's to have. ? I know a photo would be the way to go here.... can anyone tell me if Ric had knobs that they sometimes used around this period that were identical to their current knobs but just plain with no printing? # SI 4567
Thanks Randy

BTW http://www.downinggrey.com is looking for a bassist. upstate NY area.

Right below the "save preview submit" buttons there is the upload attachment key to the right of options. That's how to load fotos.

Damn, upstate NY, I love that area but it's a bit out of my wheelhouse for a band. Downing Grey's music selection is a nice fit with my tastes. The band sounds very tight!

yes indeed gentlemen, and thanks. The knobs look very much like the standard Ric knob. But I have never seen them before without the printing on them. You now, Volume ... Treble .... Bass etc. I was just curious to know if Ric ever used knobs like this. I mean perhaps John ran out one afternoon and bought a bunch of plain ones in a pinch back in `1979 And I got the only known example in the world??

Or perhpss these are just cheap knobs someone put on back in 1985?

Thanks again all.

Randy

Or maybe they are just ones where the printing rubbed off or was removed. I've heard acetone will take the letters right off...

They used the same knobs without letters on the TR series of amps which were made 78-83... I am sure both kinds of knobs would have been on hand.

radioshack and various electronic supply houses carry the same kind of knob with a blank disc. this is a possibility.

Yeah I've seen blank ones from supply houses too although not lately. I have a 79 and the knobs are printed also.

You may notice the knobs from this era have position dots of different sizes between Treble and Bass.

I think similar knobs (with no printing) were used on the 3000 and 3001 series of basses.

My 3001 had them, which I replaced with NOS oven knobs.
