Red Dots on 4001.

Help me date please.

I have a 4001 Rick carcass that was rebuilt. No jack plate. Red Dot Position markers but no Full Width Inlays... Inlay material looks like my 90's Rick guitars used to look. (Kinda pearloid).

Someone posted that Rick did Red Dots for a brief time in '76, but (apparently had otherwise switched to the black ones). Can anyone give me the time line on Red Dots and the "... new" Inlay materials? Black Binding, by the by, so I am guessing this one is early '70's. (I would think anything 60's would have Full Width Crushed inlay). That is about as close as I can get.

Any help?

Thanks, in advance,

JKC

I did a quick search of the forum and saw references to '73 & '74, but nothing about '76. Doesn't mean they didn't use 'em then, just that I didn't find anything..

'74 was red dots; full inlays stopped around April '73. Pics?

Bi-centenial celebrations in 1976 produced red dot basses, according to this thread...

Interesting, according to that thread:
In 1976 due to the Bi-centenial celebrations .... we did lots of blue basses with red dots ... and the instruments that were drilled with one dot at the octave , were turned into three dot octave markers ...thsi were then given the center dot of red and the rest blue .
Now, from what I gather, "blue" in 1976 was Azureglo. Apparently, the "Bi-centennial special" basses were over by November (or I'm just not one of the lucky ones) because my Nov '76 Azureglo 4001 just has plain ol' black dots...
:(

Black binding would indicate the original finish was most likely white. That would have black body binding, but white neck binding, and the red dots pretty well narrows it down to 1974. So my conclusion is that you have (had) a 1974 White 4001.

I was gonna say '74 as well.
Does it have a skunk stripe? That might narrow things down, just a thought.

I've had two 74's. One 74 with black dots, and one with the red!

I can't remember my first 74, I'm almost positive it was either September or November.

But my Sept 74 Burg has 'em.

I vaguely remember someone mentioning that there was a short time there were green ones too?
