I know there is a lot of love (and owners) here of blue Rickenbackers. But I looked on a list of artists who played Rickenbacker guitars throughout the decades and apart from Mitch Easter I see no artist with a blue Ric.
I know this really can't be answered, but why is it that the blue Ric is more or less non-existent in the popular music scene? Have any theories?
Feast your eyes on the only blue Rickenbacker in history that was seen on television...

I like blue guitars and blue Rics in particular, but blue guitars in general seem to be off the radar for
a lot of artists. Only a couple of iconic blue guitars off the top of my head-

You know, you're right. It isn't just blue Rics, but blue guitars that are scarce in popular music.
I figured with Rics the FireGlo is such an outstanding, iconic color that it really does diminish the desire for another color. The choice being you can have blue or the absolutely spectacular and iconic FireGlo, well that's like a choice between going to a Met game or a Yankee game while you are in New York.
I was just going to add that Mary Chapin Carpenter plays one but you beat me to it.

I am a big Steve Morse fan and always wanted one of his signature guitars, but I honestly could not stand the standard blueburst finish. I had a chance to buy a couple along the way but the finish stopped me. I ended up ordering one in a color of the year finish (2005 color for EBMM was "Buttercream").
I own a blue guitar, too-a Sonic Blue Suhr Telecaster.
I guess you wouldn't label me "blue guitar averse", and I LOVE the way your 330 with the gold plastic looks, Tommy.

I think Dave Grohl plays a blue guitar, some Gibson thing. I also saw Peter Buck playing a blue 660/12 a couple years ago. Agree, not much on the blue guitar front.

Yeah, that's a DG-335, modeled after the '60s Trini Lopez 335 model with diamond soundholes, fretboard markers and Firebird-style headstock, painted Pelham Blue:

I've had someone ask me at a gig if my 330/6 BlueBoy was a Dave Grohl!
The flippin cheek of it!

Man, you're right. Wendy Melvoin played a blue Ric.
Except for George and John, her Ric may have been seen by more people than anyone else whoever played one. I know some may say that McGuinn or Petty's Ric got more exposure, but consider the film PURPLE RAIN was a huge blockbuster, MTV was massive at that time and she was all over it, and don't forget the HUGE world tours Prince went on at that time she was using that Ric. Film, TV, and stage sure exposed her Ric to a massive audience.

I think the guitarist from Death Cab for Cutie plays a midnight blue Ric.... I saw it maybe three or four years ago on Letterman.
