Just as I opened that link...my 9 year old walked up behind me and said "Sweet, Rickenbacker, dad...are you gonna buy it?" If I did I think I'd get thrown out of the house. But it is a gorgeous instrument....

The fade is exquisite; new fades are too abrupt and have too much dark for my taste.

"Walnut" looks best IMHO with black or pinstripe binding and black pickguard. Like a 4002. Here is a gorgeous one that was on eBay:

I'm kinda partial to Walnut with white. This is my '76.

Interesting, one -0- feedback bidder bid 7 times from $2500 to $3700, which I assume was when the reserve was hit. No other bidders - yet?

Even being a one-owner and nice shape, IMO that's pretty pricey for a '77 Walnut 4001.

Lots of Rics on Ebay and 95% of them are not sold. Either all the prices are too high or they move through side deals.

$3700 + $172 to ship.

I would call that "irrational exuberance" across the board. IMHO.

My first 4001 was that colour as well. I sold it in the early 90's but still hope that it might crop for sale one day in the Toronto area...

yeah I thought that was a pretty ridiculous price for a '77 even if it is a rare color.

They might just be putting it on eBay to make sure that it is seen, and hoping that somebody contacts them asking them to sell it privately. It is certainly a beautiful guitar, in very good condition, and if I lived locally I would definitely take a look!
Nice find anyway - thankyou for sharing!
