Painting a 325c58 maple glo glossy black

Hello all,
I own a 325c64 jet glo and want to pick up a 325c58 jet glo . . . but evidently they are now discontinued. I can get a good price on a 325c58 maple glo "Liverpool" (with B5 already installed), but I would still have to buy the Burns reproduction knobs, a black pick-up switch and paint the body and neck glossy black to "Lennonize" it. Has anyone successfully painted a maple glo black? I'm curious if it will look and sound as good. I'm not as worried about retaining the value.

Sure--I've done lots of them.
This isn't a "rattle-can" job, though...

With Lennon's guitar some books tell it was close to that way!
Hmm, is the "rattle-can" job the historically correct way to go for a perfect "lennonized" guitar?
- The others may "relic" guitars, but we "lennonize" them.

Robert, welcome to the RRF. There are many active Ric enthusiasts in So Calif with a common bond through this Forum and we get together occasionally for Ric jam sessions.

Regarding refinishing your 325 ----- check out the fine work done by Paul W. (jingle_jangle) on several threads here. He is based in Northern Calif.

wasn't Lennon's painted with a brush? seriously.

Although rattle cans have been around since the late 1950s, coach enamel (what was used on JL's 325) could have been applied by brush or spray back when John's guitar was refinished. Since it was done by a car painter, I'd have to say a spray gun was used.

DeMarino said he saw brushstrokes when he worked on the guitar in the 70's, although it's possible that John or someone else was touching up scratches or something. *shrug* Anything was possible with that guitar if you ask me.
