Peter will be among an all-star cast of players who are slated to perform Big Star's seminal album Three at SXSW in Austin on March 15th at the Paramount. In addition to Peter, the lineup will include Mike Mills, Jody Stephens of Big Star, Mitch Easter of Let's Active, Chris Stamey of the dBs, and pianist Charles Cleaver, as well as Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of the Posies. The group will be joined by a host of guest vocalists throughout the evening and will be accompanied by Austin’s Tosca String Quartet and guest brass and wind musicians.

The concert will be followed by a screening of Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, a feature-length documentary about the legendary Memphis band. With never-before-seen footage and photos of the band, in-depth interviews and a rousing musical tribute by the bands they inspired, BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME is a story of artistic and musical salvation.

A trailer for BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME is viewable here: http://schedule.sxsw.com/2012/events/event_FS12365

Includes an outtake version of In The Street probably played on a Ric 12. Jim Dickinson from Ardent Studios has stated in a Mix Magazine interview that a Ric 12 was used on September Gurls so I would think it's the same one.

And let me say for the record that it's Chris Stamey who really made this happen! He's had the idea for a long time, organized the musicians, and has really, really studied these recordings!

I'm heading over from Stockholm to London for the Big Star show there in May. Not sure if Peter's gonna join there too but really looking forward to seeing you and the others there, Mitch!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Big Star Third concert in NYC last March. This sounds different yet equally exciting, and yes Chris Stamey does an excellent job, talented dude that he is....

Oh to be in Austin next week...this concert...the dBs...... :(

Now you got me playing "This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us" (Sparks) in my head. That track features a 4001 with roundwound strings played by Martin Gordon....

Alas two of the original guys in the band have passed on (guitarist and drummer):
