There is also a thread on this under "Vintage Guitar April 2012" about the RM1999/4001S story subtitled "British Party with the Rick Model 1999."
There is of course the McCartney mention, but it also covers the history of the model and the other British bassists who used it.
I subscribe to the magazine and just got mine today.
The April issue was a "Part 1" of early Ric bass history (also very good).
