I received a gold pickguard set as a gift for Christmas, so I made myself a gold truss rod cover and, not bragging, but mine came out pretty darn close to what is in that ebay ad. I would be scared out of my wits to pay $250 for a truss rod cover on ebay that's purported to be real. There really is no way to ensure it is the real deal.

The screen printing of the fakes is never as clear as the original and the gold paint of the original is a different shade that I haven't seen replicated before. Tom, you would be pretty surprised if you put your faker TRC next to this one, as the colors look pretty different.

I hadn't seen one fake that couldn't be called out easily. In fact, most takers mistakenly put "Made in USA" on the gold ones when only the V63 models ever had that too.


On top of that, if it was fake, do you thInk RIC would let the auction ride? I think not...

Besides, I'm the seller of this gold TRC and I'd like to think my reputation and knowledge of Rickenbacker parts should speak for itself?

I just had a look at the RIC Facebook pics of the UK Pearl White LE prototype and although there are no close ups of the headstock, it looks like that one also does not have the Made in USA. So seems this pattern will continue...interesting that the factory chose to do it differently for just one series of guitars.

I hope the factory can really crack down on this...I'm sure we can all think of certain sellers who seem to have got away with peddling large numbers of fakes and judging by the sale prices achieved they have successfully duped many buyers into thinking they were real. I am sure many of those faked TRC's will now be resold installed on genuine Rickenbacker guitars where the overall authenticity of the guitar itself will make the fake TRC even more difficult to spot...

Well I can only speak for myself, but all the parts I have bought from Mr Whitley have been first class, 100% as described and COMPLETELY GENUINE (no endorsement fee required Collin )!

You are on the up and up but there sure are a ton of people on ebay who are not. My fear is buying from them. I wish there were a way to be 100% sure. I suppose, as you in an out of the way suggested, one should look as closely at the seller as one looks at the actual truss rod cover.

Thank you, sir. If I hadn't been able to put a gold trc on it, I'd have kept her with the standard white guards. Nothing wrong at all with the white, but I do like how this blue/gold looks.

Hi Tom, here's my 360V64 6 FG as a comparison...it's been retrofitted at some point with gold guards/trc. I was going to return to the stock white but the FG with gold look has started to grow on me. Based on Collin's observations I am assuming the TRC must be a faker but it looks the part.

That's a really nice looking guitar. I think the gold on the fire-glo looks better than on the midnight blue. Definitely a more classic look. (I don't believe there are many blue with gold Rics out there.)

Yeah, your TRC may be a fake. I know mine is. I made it myself. I understand Ric's refusal in selling these, so I can't complain that I have a self-made TRC on my guitar. I feel as long as the gold color matches the pickguard gold, then it looks OK by me. Mine does and it seems yours does, too.

I will be switching back to white guards in future, but if you are keeping yours gold, why not make a go for the TRC being sold on this thread? Guitar like yours deserves the real thing.

Unfortunately in my experience there can be issues with the screw spacing. I've taken the gold one on the V64 off and there are no additional holes drilled in the headstock (i.e the original holes which would have been factory drilled for the original white trc have been used). However, when I've looked at installing different trc's on Ricks in the past, I've found that there are often slight variations in where the holes have been drilled in the factory which means you have to get lucky (even with an authentic original factory trc from the same model) that you'll be able to fit it to your guitar without the need to drill additional hole(s) in the headstock. On a guitar as sweet as this V64, I dont really want to be doing that. Collin's genuine trc is off a C58 325...I suspect that it would not be a straight install onto a V64 headstock and you'd almost certainly need to drill at least one new hole...

Then customers like yourself don't have to buy from them, simple as that.

As the seller of an item, it's my responsibility to present the item for exactly what it is and provide ample photos as verification. My responsibilites do not include educating the general public about what to look for in a fake part. That's what websites like this one are for. That's where threads like this should come in, but instead the OP assumes it's a fake and posts nothing but a link to the auction? That's why I asked Nelson to explain exactly what he was seeing that would warrant a thread like this....apparently it's "guilty before proven innocent" around here.

So there it is. A real part, at a real price. Buy it or don't buy it-- but I shouldn't have to go to such lengths to defend a genuine Rickenbacker part.

Yup, bingo.

It's a C58 TRC so I can't vouch for it fitting any other models (hence the measurements shown).

It wouldn't fit on a vintage Rickenbacker that I had, the C58 TRC footprint is different.

Collin I can do two things for you................change the title of the thread to something far more friendly or delete it entirely. Of course the other alternative is to do neither of those things. Your choice. Let me know.
