Re: STINKY CASE?
Thanks for posting Paul. I have a 1964 case which smells like its been in less than perfect storage conditions for a loooooooong time! Could be a good candidate for an experiment...will let you know how I get on!

Re: STINKY CASE?
It makes complete sense; cat litter is a potently effective deodorizer.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

Just make sure to use new cat litter...paologregorio wrote:It makes complete sense; cat litter is a potently effective deodorizer.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

..with the way my case smells, I think even used would be an improvement..

Paul-
Thanks for posting this.
All humor aside, here in Hawaii all my vintage cases really get bad. To the point where I've contemplated
getting new cases....
Hope this saves them.

Re: STINKY CASE?
I recently acquired a new bass and the vintage-style case it came in smelled like someone got inside of it and smoked an entire pack of cigarettes - something the seller failed to disclose. I tried sprinkling baking soda inside and letting it sit for a few days. No luck! It was annoying enough to force me to sell the case and pick up a new SKB.

I also tried baking soda in the past with negative results.NFB-418 wrote:I recently acquired a new bass and the vintage-style case it came in smelled like someone got inside of it and smoked an entire pack of cigarettes - something the seller failed to disclose. I just loaded a '65 Fender Pbass case & a '50s Ric lapsteel case with Hartz PH5 natural, unscented kitty litter.
I think I'll let it sit for a week, then flip them over for another week so the litter sits on the top of the cases...or maybe
load new litter for the top.
I'll report back with results.

It must be the old cases have more organic fibers. The new cases fair better, so I suppose Butyl-Accetate gas out is good for something....
Don't get me started on the Termites here!.....

Hey! When I saw you were the last poster, and the topic title, I at least thought you were going to allude to my old nick-name.....opticnerve wrote:I also tried baking soda in the past with negative results.NFB-418 wrote:I recently acquired a new bass and the vintage-style case it came in smelled like someone got inside of it and smoked an entire pack of cigarettes - something the seller failed to disclose.
