When I want to hear Ric tone.....I listen to of course Early Rush, Yes, REM and the Smithereens and some Sir Paul/Beatles...... Can you guys point me in any other directions for recordings that can cure my need to more Ric tone?

I'll say it again: Tool, Undertow. It's only because of that record I even know what a Ric is. I don't know, maybe I'd have found out by now but... seriously. I had been a gigging bassist six years and had no idea they existed until scrounging around to find out what Paul d'Amour played. And to me his tone is so much more like the "natural" Ric tone than a lot of players identified with the instrument.

There's other offbeat stuff like Squarepusher that has really prominent Ric bass. The Mastodon album Crack the Skye has a good chunk of 4001 (and Gibson Thunderbird) on it as well.

Definitely Wake of Poseidon, King Crimson...

Especially 'Cat Food,' it certainly sounds like a Rick and Peter Giles did play one (or at least mimed with one on Top of the Pops):

I always dug this picture...Crimson's my favorite band, hands down.

Jeff: Crimso is my favorite band(s). It never occurred to me that Peter G. played a Rick. I'll have to give it a closer listen.

As for other options:

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Renaissance, Jon Camp had a great sound and a style that made best use of it.

For something more modern, I've been digging Franz Ferdinand recently, Bob Hardy uses a 3001 (I think), and I've also seen pictures of him with a 4001 or 4003, not sure which.

The band Crack the Sky's first album, especially a little tune called "ice",one of the best RIC bass recordings out there for me. Also "hasta manana, monsieuer" from Sparks' "kimono my house" album. For a more prog jazz sound,"Kraan Live" is another example of unmistakeable pure ( picked, too) RICBASS goodness. Flash's "in the can" lp. And of course,REM's 'Murmer lp.

Mötörhead, Ace of Spades.
Stray, Only What You Make It
Sweet, Solid Gold Brass, Fox On The Run(LP Version)- In fact, the original "Desolation Boulevard" (Not the US singles LP...) has some of my favorite Hi-Gain 4001 tone yet....
Sister Double Happiness (self titled LP)
Stone Roses, (Well the vid for "I Wanna Be Adored" shows a 4005, but it has been debated as to it's actual use...)
It's a Beautiful Day, (In the film "Stamping Ground" the bass player is using a 4005)

I didn't know Troy used a 4001. I've never seen any pics of him with one or heard it mentioned as part of his gear.

It (and the TBird) are new additions on that album. And he doesn't own them, they were owned by the studio.

Give the Atlanta Rythym Section a listen. ( Champaign Jam), I always enjoyed Paul Goddards Rick tone.
