I've never heard a 12-string Rickenbacker (the Roger McGuinn model too!) played like this! No jingling and jangling and clean amps here. Sounds amazing though... Here's The Church playing Tantalized live:

Oops - sorry Paul! I didn't mean to invoke your RRF monicker! What I meant is that the 12-string Ric isn't limited to just the 'classic' jingle-jangle sound as this video ably demonstrates. I hope I didn't somehow offend you - if so, I apologize profusely! [EDIT: I updated the title of this post to avoid any further confusion!]

Our own John Ashfield (Bobbleheads) is another one who uses his 12er for everything. They play so easy, so why not?

I totally agree! It's just that most people don't think of Ric 12-string and shredding in the same sentence (especially among younger players). It's a problem of perception, but Ric 12-strings are far more versatile than most think. I firmly believe you can play anything on Rics: pop, rock, hard rock, blues, jazz, country, ...

Watching that made me desire a Ric 12ver even more. Personally, I think they'd be great for black metal.

I love using a Rick 12 with distortion or overdrive. Sounds fantastic, IMO, but MWP is one of my fave Rick 12 string players, and an inspiration!

Wow, thanks for posting stsang! Hadn't seen that before and great version of one of my favourite Church songs. Marty is a whiz on the rick.

Of any Rick 12-string player, MWP has rubbed off on me the most, I think.

Joey, Rich, Gary, and I had the pleasure of meeting MWP and Tiare at NAMM a couple of years back. Great person, quite personable, as if we were all longtime friends.

I won't be buying a McGuinn model or 1993 any time soon however-happy with the 381/12 and the 360/12 C 63....

I rather enjoy using mine on our version of Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs' from time to time. Sounds great, but you have to really work to get those bends!

I dunno that I'd quite call that "heavy metal" . . . maybe more like "hard progressive." But whatever - it's cool!

Back when I had my 660/12 Montezuma, once in a while I'd tune it in DADGAD and give it a fair amount of overdrive. Talk about an ENORMOUS sound. There's really nothing quite like it.
