I've used a Carvin PB100 for years, sounds fine but wondered what the consensus is on the best amp to compliment a Rick bass? I've got a 4003s/5.

ameg svt...old real ones ! thems the swines to use, but alas...kids are weak now and can't lift a finger anymore. geddy used to use them and had great tone in the early daze, then went clinical ! but you guys want an amp that weighs 5 pounds and puts out 5 million watts ??? effort baby...effort !

Acoustic 370 and a JBL 1x15 or my Ashdown MAG300c115 combo. Yeah, the old days of the SVT cabs or Acoustic 301s are long gone!

For many years, I had played through a SWR SM-400 head into a 4x10 Goliath II and Goliath Jr. II. Great, dependable sound, but I got tired of carrying that Goliath 4 x 10 at the end of the night. Now I have a Little Mark Tube Head that I goes into a Genz Benz NEOX-212T. Light weight, powerful and very nice, in your face tone. I still have the SWR SM-400 and the Goliath Jr. II for backup or if extra air movement is needed at a gig. Never one day of trouble from that 22 year old SWR rig.

I got a little Eden Nemesis for home and it's a good learning amp. I perform as drummer; Try lugging 2 24x16 bass drums, two floors, two racks, a snare and a spare, seven cymbals and a full trap case around.
I would like a real tube SVT and 8x10 bottom at some point. I'm with Ronbo.

I am using an Orange AD200B with a Orange 15 incher cabinet.
Fantastic match with a Ric.

fEARful 15/6 + tc electronic Classic 450. Gets a lot of compliments from sound guys. Really transparent, really good at pushing low frequencies and just sounding HUGE. Figured out the best way to mic it recently too, since occasionally I want cab sound and not just DI (mainly studio). I bet it would pair well with a 5-string and hope to find out some day soon.

One of:
'60s Vox AC50 + 1x15 cab (retro rock); or
GK MB200 combo + 1x12 extension cab + Ashdown bass compressor (jazz); or
Line6 Bass Pod + any available solid state amp, bypassing the preamp if possible.
I have yet to play a venue large enough to warrant a huge rig. Maybe one day....

Exact same except with two cabs. Somewhat for looks, somewhat so I can hear myself better. (Though I might just run & mike one.)
So far I am TOTALLY DELIGHTED to see that many of us old timers still sacrifice just a bit of effort and carrry a heavier amp to get better tone.
And I am TOTALLY DELIGHTED that I have not yet read the standard "Well, if you played out every night like I do you'd play a handbag amp like mine" lecture.
Sure, if you play in NYC. I buy that. Been that, done that.
But most of those guys just don't have bandmates who will help them load in or load out. Why?? We can all guess.

Mine's not quite 5 million watts, and it weighs a bit more than 5 lbs...
SansAmp RPM & RBI, Carvin DCM1540L (14 lbs, and a mere 1500 watts), Ampeg 2x10's, 4x10's and 1x15's...
