Different Drum in Newport, Ca.
Tonite (saturday the 21st) I'll be at the Rusty Pelican in Newport with Different Drum and the lovely and talented Jenna Romano on vox.

The guitarist is fun to see, too. Like our friend, Kenny, he's a monster player that knows almost every song ever written. We make it a point every night to take random requests and more often than not it turns out okay.

Sounds like fun... I'm going to be close by at RIC today. What time do you guys go on?
Re: Different Drum in Newport, Ca.
We'll be playing from 8:30 ish -close. The Pelican is a nice hangout, so Heather & I are going to make it a 'working date night.'

Jason, our frontman, also plays many dates solo. One evening we went to see him at a local club and when he offered up that he'd take requests, my silly wife thought she was being smart by asking for "Flower of Scotland", the pseudo national anthem of Scotland. She made some snotty remark about "stumping the singer".s4001 wrote: We make it a point every night to take random requests and more often than not it turns out okay.
He promptly played it, and played it well, much to her great surprise.
Then he did it again . . . this time in in Gaelic.

John, a great story.
I never cease to be amazed by the memory of some musicians.
Your wife must have been shocked. In Gaelic to boot.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

We usually just get Bob Segar or Zep requests.johnhall wrote:Jason, our frontman, also plays many dates solo. That's funny. Last night it happened to us, too. Some guy walked up and requested "Wabash Cannonball." I said I knew it, but I doubted the rest of the band did. So I turned to them and said "Three chords, key of G. Just follow me." And to my surprise, it worked out pretty well.

While setting up, a guy wearing a yellow Izod with the collars turned up came up to us "You should let my girlfriend sing, she's great!"
To the Rusty Pelican's credit, they kicked him out by our third song.
