Have a chance to grab a 1988 red/black 330 for a good price. What does this colour combo do to the value? I know it wasn't made for long and don't want a guitar that may be hard to sell in the future.
Thanks in advance!!!

Chris, are you talking about the fire engine red models with black plastic? Those are a tough sell today.
Thing is, they're pretty cool looking to some folks, but have a limited appeal in general because of their non-traditional Rickenbacker style, colors etc.
I would say, make sure you don't overpay now if you're concerned with resale. Rarity, in this case, doesn't equate to a substantially higher price than more common models.
As for specific value -- $1100-1200? I'm unsure on these

Yeah that's pretty much what I figured. It is the fire-engine red and would be $1000.

Not runaway steal of the year, but a solid price. I'd say go for it, you have nothing to lose.
I have seen people replace the black plastics with white before and they look great with the red. That's something that can only be done with the 330s, since the similar 360/12s had black binding that can't (easily) be removed.

Chris,
I own a 1991 330/12 in the color you described. I bought it in mint condition from a small shop here in Cleveland 15 years ago. The tag was $600, and when I asked the salesperson why the price was so low, he said it was because the color was unpopular. The fact is, the guitar plays and sounds great, and it looks pretty snazzy.

Whenever I show it to someone new, they say, "Wow! I didn't know they made them in this color!" $1000 sounds like a decent price, if it's in good condition. But, if you're already considering resale value, maybe this isn't the guitar for you.

Not my favourite colour combination but I have always thought that swapping out the black hardware for chrome and adding white guards and trussrod cover would be worth the bother and a handsome result.

That is sooooo Eighties. I think one is going to love it or hate it. I'd rock it.

Back in like '93 (I think... a while ago)I had a Midnight Blue 360 with black hardware and binding and really liked the look of the black hardware. If you do get it, I wouldn't change it out. Although the white does look nice, that black is kind of special. It's kind of Darth Vadarish with the black "force be with you" TRC.

For a grand, I'd jump on it. 330s are fun.
