I never knew he owned one and used it on Paperback Writer.

Yep, he had one. Here is a picture of John with his 6120.

According to the Beatles To-A-Tee video series, John might've used his Gretsch on "She Said, She Said", in addition to "Paperback Writer". I trust that video series, because Rob Taylor nails the tones with ease, and does it right.
A Burns Nu-Sonic bass was used by George at "Paperback Writer", but since George played bass on "She Said, She Said", he obviously used it there too.

You can't say that for sure. From
Recording The Beatles (Kehew & Ryan):
EMI documentation seems to indicate that the initial backing track was comprised of three takes of drums, bass, and two guitars, suggesting that Paul stayed around at least long enough to contribute to the rhythm track.
The bass and drums make up track 1 and the two guitars were make up track 2.

That does make the plot thicken, and I'll believe the book. Of course, as we've seen here, there's no use in trusting Paul's memory, either!

Yes indeed, or most anybody's for that matter!

I remember a discussion in which a WEM Pep Rush pedal was used with this Gretsch 6120 on Paperback Writer.
