Best Aftermarket Case For 4001

I need a new Hardcase for my 4001, the one it came with is years old, and also not the original one anyway, also a bit battered.

Don't want to pay the £200+ for a Ric case, but just need a good quality (really like the Fender-y molded plastic ones) to transport my baby around. Maybe looking around £120/130 tops.

Any suggestions on this? I've looked at a load of places, but most stockists inform me that 'a Ric won't fit!'

I'm (somewhat obviously) in the UK due to the use of the ££££!

There must be something I can put her in.....thoughts? :?

Found one of these at a great price - too far away to check if it will fit a Ric though!

Anybody tried one with theirs? Seems quite a universal fit?

I am going up to Sam Ash today, I can bring a bass and see if they have one to try out.

I find it odd that the spec sheet on the Gator case doesn't have inside dimensions.

It fits a 5-string P so it's likely to be far bigger than you need for a Ric. (Rics are overall smaller than Fenders in width and length.) So the only concern I would have is if the Ric slides around too much.

Okay, I am back from SA. I took my 4001V63 to check the fit. The bass fits fine but does slide longitudinally in the case a bit and the pad on the lid does not make it to the bass, so your favorite bits of extra padding would be needed. Widthwise, it was a great fit.

Thanks for that Jeffrey - really appreciate you checking that out for me, and going the extra mile.

Sounds pretty good to me, even if I have to add a bit of padding at odd times!

Price-wise - they retail at around £120 ($186), but I can get one from a supplier for about £70 ($108), so I'll go for that! :D

That's excellent Iain. I'd love to see pics if you get a chance, as I have always been curious about aftermarket cases too.
