Opportunity

Received an interesting request today. Have been referred by another musician and have been asked to play with join up with a new group. Talked with them and it appears I have an opportunity to hook up with a professional band. I know I have the chops to hang with them but I've never been involved with 'professional music', ie. sound man, lighting man, roadies. What should I be expecting for compensation as a new musician joining an established band? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind of hard to say, but honestly it should be an equal share after expenses (sound man, gas, etc.)

Good luck with the opportunity, if you decide to go for it, Pete!

Maybe it's naive of me to say... But shouldn't compensation be discussed before accepting the position? If not, then, yeah, be around when they count the money! Either way, congratulations!

Be around when they count the money regardless of whether you've discussed it before hand or not!

Back in 1978 when I played for The Bob Weir Band the pay was $1000 per week + $25 a day for food. I have no idea what the wages are today. Better I hope. Good luck and negotiate up-front.

I'd guess, lower weekly wages, and higher per diems...

Turned out this group was better at marketing than playing music. It's a no go

Kinda sounds like a situation I was in a couple months ago. It sounded like i was going pro, travelling, etc...

I was even still being told I was their guy a month and a half ago. I haven't heard from them since. Oh well.
