unusual 1973 high-gain bass pickup?

Hello.......
I took this high-gain pickup off of my early 1973 4001 - - I swapped in a toaster. Check it out, it has lateral "raised areas" in its top plastic surface. You can see them, one on each side of the poles.
I don't think I've seen that before on a high-gain pickup (or maybe I have, and just didn't notice).
Have you guys seen one of these before?
I realize this is totally arcane, I'm just curious.
By the way, its resistance was around 11.6k, vs. the lower resistance toaster the bass now has.
best - Richard
