Just another word of caution on the screw length for this mod on the "new" High gains ....
I made the mistake originally of having screws as long as the pole pieces that I had removed from the pickups.
WRONG ! ! !
I had forgot to compensate for the counter-sinking depth.... the result being that the too long screws I first tried almost cracked the magnet underneath, by the screws putting pressure on the magnet. Luckily I was able to get the screws out before they damaged it much ... put some super glue there to hold the magnet together and used the shorter 3/8 inch long scews. And the Toasterized High Gains worked fine !

Still struggling to find screws, and even the genuine pole piece screws, but you guys have done all you can do to help, so for that I am very grateful.
Ill let you know how I get on.

I use the same screws whether they are the adjustable polepieces or the earlier version with pushpins. I grind then to 0.400" in length as that is the thickness of the bobbin.8mileshigher wrote: ... Why not just buy a set of toasters? If you don't like them, take them off and resell them. I don't see the advantage to trying to cut screws etc., just to convert to something that is already easily available. Is there supposed to be some kind of performance or sound advantage to "toasterizing" hi-gains?
I was just playing my 330/12 last night. I saved up and put toasters on it almost a year ago. The pickups on the guitar sound really great, especially with a set of RIC strings and running through an MXR Dyna-Comp into my Vox AC15. Wow, what a great sound!

Clifton, there is a significant difference in tone and lots of people prefer the hi gain tone, particularly with six string models.
Plus toasters are more than twice the price of hi gains.

It's about getting the Higain sound with the toaster look.Clifton wrote:Why not just buy a set of toasters? If you don't like them, take them off and resell them.
