Anyone else know of a Rick bass being used in a modern country/western ("we have both kinds . . .") band?
I'm not counting James Kirkland with the Blue Boys as "modern."

I also know a girl that switches between her Rickenbacker 4001 and an Engelhardt upright bass in the country band John Howie Jr and the Rosewood Bluff.

Does the genre still exist? Most "country" bands I see these days are just pop rock bands with twangy vocals and occasionally a pedal steel or mandolin thrown in for good measure.
End of short, non-passionate rant.

I've seen a few local groups here and there over the years have a Ric bass!
Good taste fits all types of music!

I've been known to use my 360/12 CW on country tunes, including some of those written by Hank Sr.

I've played Rics on country gigs. The neck pickup tone is well-suited.
+1 to the notion of pop bands with folk instruments not being the same as country... at all.

Sometimes... I'm playing my 4001FL during part of our barn dance gig this Saturday.
Here's a video of someone playing a Rick with the Possum:

Well, not exactly modern, but, my band used to play the occasional country/western gig back in the early '80s, me on my 4001. We mostly played rock, but it was in Colorado, so with some venues, CW was pretty much required...
