Hello! (with some questions and pictures)

Seems every bigger purchase I buy, I end up joining another forum- Gretsch, Moog, Vespa, now Rickenbacker! Anyway, hello! I've been playing music since I was 13 in '83, and am currently in 3 bands that play mostly locally, original stuff mainly- I'll put the links down on my sig if anyone's bored/curious-
So I've always lusted after a Ric, and now that I'm 42, have finally pulled the trigger on one, a 2005 360/12- There are none in my area (on the beach in NC), so I ordered one from Texas Guitar Ranch in Dallas-
I've been reading that in 2005 the nut was adjusted to decrease the gap between the strings- I'm guessing that would include mine? Here's a pic: Image- The spacing doesn't look all that narrow- Could this one have been before the nut change, or does this look like it's post mod?
Thanks, and nice to e-meet you!

Seth

Welcome to the RRF Seth and congratulations on getting a fine instrument. The OEM nut on this guitar would have been black so someone has fitted this one to the guitar after it left the factory. The spacing looks good to me. How does it feel and play?

Please post more pictures of your guitar. We love to look at "Rick Porn".

A swapped out nut, eh? Interesting! I wonder why? Too wide, or too slim spacing (or they just didn't like black  ) Good to hear the spacing looks good! I'm not ashamed to admit I don't know what to look for, since this will be my first 12 string-
How does it play? I won't know until Monday! I'm going to do some obsessive compulsive woodshedding, then try it out Tuesday with the band- I hope I'm not being too optimistic, but I hope to be comfortable enough with it to use it for a biggish show the 21st!
Do most of you Rick folks use flats? I'm assuming this will show up with rounds... I'll know soon enough!
Here's another shot

Looks good! Here is a link to the strings I use on my Rick 12 strings:

They aren't cheap but they feel great, sound fantastic, and last a long time!

Welcome, Seth! 8)

From what I can see, the replace, white, nut has wider spacing between the string pairs, a good thing for fingering; you should have no trouble getting used to playing this 360. :D

35$ youch! But I ordered a set anyway! They're still cheap compared to upright bass strings!
thanks for the link! Any advice whatsoever is appreciated!

You won't think that after putting them on and playing them for a while. 8)

thanks for the good nut news, and the welcomes! from my initial browsing, this forum seems pretty friendly- there're some douches on the Gretsch one
I think a huge part of the new instrument joy(/anxiety) is the pre-purchase research, and tracking its progress to its new home!
Its funny how there seem to be MANY variations on the Fireglo coloring! Maybe it's just the photos, but I've browsed over some that look straight up sunburst, to some that are textbook PINK!

It all depends on when they were made and who was doing the painting. Since these are all painted by hand, no two will be exactly the same...

Anyone know what year Ric changed the headstocks from gullies to slots cut all the way through?
