Who else used a 325?

Post by musicfan37 »

We all know John made the Ric 325 very famous. However, I was wondering if anyone else, famous, played a 325 around the same time because they liked the guitar and not just because of Lennon?

It's hard to know people's motives, especially as it was so long ago, but John Fogerty played his 325 on a lot of CCR hits in the Sixties.

Maybe I should have said it this way- Who played a 325 back in the late 50s, early 60s who maybe didn't even know Lennon played one.

Ah, good question. Before Lennon I don't know of anyone famous who used a 325. I know that John chose Rickenbacker after seeing Toots Thielemans with one, but I think Toots' was a Capri, not a 325.

I think Toots also had a Tulip of some sort that he played, also.

AFAIK, it was almost destined to become discontinued until Lennon arrived on the scene playing one. Just not a popular model before then..

BUT, Fogerty's fire-glo 325 had the bridge pickup replace with a humbucker ...

Yeah, it's quite something to think the 325 probably would have been discontinued had Lennon chose a different guitar.
